Drinks with that sir? Help wanted.

I know this isn't strictly a BLW issue but Goosey just won't drink from a sippy or open cup. I know it's important to be introducing them at this stage (well to be honest a good few weeks ago) but he either throws it off the high chair immediately or just clamps up if I try to put it anywhere near his mouth. I've tried a number of different types of cups but he won't go near them.

I've even tried dribbling some water into his mouth so he gets an idea of what's in there but he's not interested. Help!

  1. The problem is obviously that you aren't drinking enough in from of him. Get yourself a tumbler and a bottle of wine and set that child a good example :-)

I think we just left a sippy cup on the high chair tray and let Alex find out what it was herself. Baby Led Drinking?

How about a cup with a nice soft built in straw?

Have you tried a doidy cup?

  2. I've tried leaving the different cups on the tray but they end up on the floor within nano seconds. Perhaps he's too hungry and just looking for hidden food :-)

He does see H using a cup, so there is an example. I'll give the straw a go - never thought of that.

I love the wine idea though!!!

  3. we are going through same issue at the mo too. I have been trying him for about a month now with various drinks receptacles and no joy. He is still just messing with them. We are going to a wedding in a fortnight and will prob be a very early night for us as will have to get back to feed the baby seeing as how he will not take milk from any other vehicle bar boob.
btw we werent invited to bring the baby...!

  4. I got it sorted & in one very easy stage! When dinner was over I picked up the cup and gave him a sip in the "nursing position" rather than in the high chair. I also warmed the water up a bit. The result was instantanious. I did this for a couple of meals and then left the cup on the tray and he began to reach out for it.

BTW I did take the little valve thingy out so he doesn't have to suck.

Good luck Ruth. If that fails I know of someone who booked a room in the same hotel as the wedding and the baby sitter minded her daughter there. Then she popped up to nurse when required.
